Botanical Garden Sprints 2007

What

Juniper Rowing Club is hosting our 5th Annual Botanical Gardens Sprints. All clubs are welcome to participate. .

When

Saturday August 25th, 2007. 0800 pre-race coaches/cox meeting, first race at 0900.

Where

Norfolk Botanical Gardens, 6700 Azalea Garden Road, Norfolk, Virginia 23518. The Botanical Gardens have directions and a link to a map HERE. There are also Yahoo Maps and Google Maps.

Events

All events will be 1000 meters. The following events will be held:

  • m1x, w1x, rec 1x, novice 1x
  • m2x, w2x, mix 2x, novice 2x
  • m4+, w4+, mix 4+, novice 4+
  • m8+, w8+, mix 8+, novice 8+
and if there 2- or 4x boats that want to race, we'll accommodate them too.

Novices are those who have been rowing less than one year.

Although this is predominantly a masters regatta, all ages are welcome to participate to round out boats.

Race Fee

Each race participant (rowers, coxswains, scullers) shall pay $10 per race.

Registration

Registration for the regatta will be handled by email. If you want to participate in races, send your details by email to Henry. You can register in bulk as a club, or as individuals. Your emails should show your club, what races you wish to participate in, names of each rower in each boat, and whether they have signed a waiver at MRA.

Fees are $10 per participant (rower, sculler, cox) per race. Checks should be payable to Juniper Rowing Club, and can be mailed to Henry Griggs, 2009 Pleasant Valley Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. Payment should be made before the event. Late entries can be paid at the event.

We will accept new entries and changes to entries up till Wednesday 22nd August. Refunds for any changes up till Wednesday 22nd August will be paid by check the week after the event. No refunds will be made for changes occurring after the 22nd. However, we'll be flexible if we can. Last minute registration changes on the day will be accepted if we can.

Awards

Each participant in the first, second and third place winning boats in each race will receive a Botanical Gardens Sprints ribbon.

Botanical Gardens Sprints Trophy

The boat club with the highest total cumulative points will be awarded the Norfolk Botanical Gardens Sprints Points Trophy. 1st place = 3 points, 2nd place = 2 points, 3rd place = 1 point.

Parking

Trailers can arrive at the Botanical Gardens at 0700 sharp when we'll have the Fisherman's Gate open and manned to monitor vehicle entry. Only rowing shell trailers, tow vehicles, roof top boat carriers and vehicles with loads of rowing and race support gear are permitted in the trailer area. This will be close to the launch docks.

All other vehicles will park in the designated area off the duck feeding station. There will be signs, and attendants will be there to guide you. The parking fee is $5 per vehicle.

Picnic/Barbecue

Juniper Rowing Club will be hosting a picnic/barbecue at the end of the races. We will have bagels, fruit and drinks during the course of the morning.

Pets

Botanical Gardens rules - no pets allowed in The Garden unless they are to aid/assist their human companions (no pets).
