When We Row

When We Row

Our on-water rowing season is between mid-March and mid November (sometimes mid-January), depending on water temperature. We row on public holidays. We row when it's raining (lightly). The main thing that keeps us off the water is lightning.

Get There Early

Try and get there about 15 minutes before the start time. That's when we start to assign seats in the boats. If you come late, you might miss getting in a boat.

When We Erg

We erg during the winter season. Most YMCAs have ergs, and a number of our members have their own ergs. Erging keeps you strong and fit, so you can get back on the water and be up to speed rapidly, rather than wheezing through one or two months of pain at the start of each rowing season.

And there's the HRRC Erg Pull competition in the middle of each February, where you get to prove your erging skills.
